So where to go from here ? We'd done TV, we'd done the Bridge, Fleece etc, we'd done local radio (thanks Al). Steve got us a gig at a University club off Park Street with us as headliners and Crazy ("We're gonna blow you off-stage") Trains. Somehow, someone had made contact with a London manager called Mike Malley. Mike came up to see us, liked what he saw and started to manage us. WOW! A london manager! We did shedloads of gigs for Mike and it was all good fun. Loads of.... American airforce bases .....RAF Lakenheath "In peace our mission is to train for war .... and don't you forget it", RAF Greenham Common Cruise Recreation Centre ("silos... what silos boy ?").... Oxbridge balls supporting the likes of the Darts, Joe Boxers, that lot that did "young at heart", Screaming Lord Sutch and the ultimate gentleman and our hero Steve Gibbons (every inch a star!) London Pubs and Dingwalls ... supporting the likes of the Groundhogs (what a drum kit!) Desmond Decker (scary!). Mike used to bring along record company types (including that weird guy who eventually "signed" the Crazy Trains) but somehow it never happened Mike then topped all this with the announcement that he had got us a week playing at the Crescendo Lodge apres-ski bar in Sierra Nevada Spain. |
